1 trade every NFL team needs to make-NFC

With the NFL trade deadline approaching this week and the rash of injuries that have occurred this year, this year’s deadline could be more active. With contenders trying to find the missing piece and bottom feeders trying to rebuild, plenty of moves will continue to be made as there have already been some trades that occurred. With that being said, we drew up trade scenarios for every team.

Packers-get Rodgers his 2nd WR

• Packers get: WR Will Fuller

• Texans get: 2021 3rd round pick

The Packers are contenders once again with a 5-2 record leading the NFC North. Recently the team just hasn’t been able to get over the hump and into the Super Bowl. People were confused and livid when the front office decided to draft Utah State quarterback Jordan Love instead of taking a receiver. The Packers have inquired about Texans receiver Will Fuller and it would be a great fit. Fuller has played alongside superstar wideout Deandre Hopkins and has been a nice compliment to him. With Houston taking a step back from contention, trading Will to a contender and getting picks back would be a reasonable move for both sides.

Bears-Eddie Jackson gets his partner in crime

• Bears get: S Justin Simmons

• Broncos get: 2021 3rd round pick

The Bears have been back in playoff contention behind the emergence of quarterback Nick Foles as he leads them to a 5-3 record. The defense is still the staple of this team but the secondary could use an upgrade. Defensive backs Kyle Fuller and Eddie Jackson are doing a great job leading this unit, but the other safety position could be better. Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos is looking for an extension after a breakout season and is on the franchise tag. The Bears could form a dangerous safety duo with the accusation of Simmons playing alongside Jackson.

Lions-get Stafford more protection

• Lions get: OG Andrew Norwell

• Jaguars get: 2021 3rd round pick

The Lions have been a very poorly run organization. This year the team looks to have potential sitting at a 3-4 record. It’s not amazing but the tape shows this team can go toe to toe with almost anybody. Detroit already made a move earlier by acquiring defensive end Everson Griffen from the Cowboys. The offense has been performing well this year but their longtime franchise quarterback could use some protection upfront. The Jaguars aren’t seeing the playoffs anytime soon and they have been shedding big contracts. Their star offensive guard Andrew Norwell isn’t getting younger and the Lions are looking to make some playoff push while they still have Stafford. Norwell will improve the offensive line tremendously alongside their tackle Taylor Decker.

Vikings-continue selling

• Vikings get: 2021 5th round pick

• Eagles get: OT Riley Reiff

The Vikings have been sellers this year. They dealt budding superstars in wideout Stefon Diggs and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue who they just traded for before the season. Sitting at a 2-5 record the team needs to continue being sellers. The Eagles have dealt with a number of injuries and need offensive linemen. Vikings tackle Riley Reiff has been a decent lineman and is rumored to be on the trade block. He has a pretty big contract and the team has been freeing up cap space. The Eagles need some linemen who can fill in for the injury-plagued team and this move helps out both sides.

Eagles-get receiver help

• Eagles get: WR Dante Pettis

• 49ers get: 2021 5th round pick

The only reason we didn’t say fire sale or shed big contracts is because of injury. The Eagles have big contracts invested in wide receiver Alshon Jeffery who hasn’t played this year and tight end Zach Ertz who hasn’t been the same since the Super Bowl victory and just went on injured reserve. The team barely has healthy receivers and the 49ers have been trying to move on from wideout Dante Pettis. These two teams tried to hammer out a deal before but now is the time to get it done. Wentz will finally have a mother deep threat who could use a change of scenery.

Cowboys-strengthen backup QB position

• Cowboys get: QB Jacoby Brissett

• Colts get: 2021 5th round pick

The Cowboys have been disappointing to say the least. The defense has been at an all-time low and definitely needs work. They could go trade for the young defensive tackle Quinnen Williams but the injuries to the quarterbacks have taken a hit on them. They lost their franchise guy in Dak Prescott to a broken ankle and their backup Andy Dalton to a concussion on a big hit. 7th round pick Ben DiNucci is not going to make this team competitive and the Colts have a quarterback who can get you some wins in Jacoby Brissett. Even though the team has been terrible, they still have a chance to win the division and that needs to start with a quarterback change.

Football Team-shop Kerrigan

• Football Team gets: 2022 2nd round pick

• Seahawks get: DE Ryan Kerrigan

The Football Team has potential for the future, especially in their defensive line. After drafting edge rushers Montez Sweat and Chase Young, veteran Ryan Kerrigan is left out of the picture. He hasn’t gotten as many snaps as he had before and there are numerous teams who could use help in the pass rush unit. Someone of Kerrigan’s caliber could definitely get you a 2nd round pick and the Seahawks are looking to win now. It makes sense to get a future draft pick for a player looking to go to a contender.

Giants-harvest picks

• Giants get: 2021 3rd round pick

• Cardinals get: OG Kevin Zeitler

The Giants are at the bottom once again. The best thing to do: harvest draft picks. The team is in rebuild mode and it would be best to build through the draft. Offensive guard Kevin Zeitler is their best linemen but the offensive line isn’t great and this year’s draft class has some great linemen. The Giants draft guard Will Hernandez a couple years ago and just drafted tackle Andrew Thomas this year. The Giants need to get younger on the line and the Cardinals could use someone inside to protect Kyler Murray from Aaron Donald twice a year.

Buccaneers-the rich get richer

• Buccaneers get: S Anthony Harris

• Vikings get: 2021 4th round pick

The Buccaneers have been the most hyped team with Tom Brady leading the team to a 6-2 record. The Bucs have some work to do as they have been in some close games and haven’t looked really consistent. The defense has been performing well but the safety position needs a boost. They have a good rookie in Antoine Winfield but it would be better to also have a veteran safety who can mentor him. The Vikings have been dealing players away and safety Anthony Harris is looking for an extension after coming off his best year. The Bucs get a veteran leader in the young secondary that pairs great next to the rookie Winfield.

Saints-get Lattimore’s partner in crime

• Saints get: CB Stephon Gilmore

• Patriots get: 2021 1st round pick, TE Jared Cook

The Saints are still trying to win a Super Bowl in the short window they have with future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees. One need that the team had was a number 2 receiver but they signed Emmanuel Sanders to fill that spot. The team has a lot of talent but they don’t have another shutdown corner next to pro bowler Marshon Lattimore. Last year’s defensive player of the year cornerback Stephon Gilmore has been put up for trade and this move would put the Saints over the hump. Gilmore and Lattimore would be a deadly lock-up duo and the Saints have rookie tight end Adam Trautman to replace the veteran Jared Cook. This is a move the Saints have to make.

Panthers-pass attack gets better

• Panthers get: TE David Njoku

• Browns get: 2021 5th round pick

The Panthers have been a good team this year who is looking to make a playoff push. The offense has been clicking with new quarterback Teddy Bridgewater but still has a hole at tight end. The young guy Ian Thomas hopes to fulfill that spot but the Panthers can get better especially with all-pro running back Christian McCaffery being out with injury. The Browns have 3 good tight ends and with the emergence of rookie Hunter Bryant, David Njoku has no role on that team. He even requested a trade so him getting a starting chance in Carolina to be Teddy’s safety blanket would be a great fit for the team and Njoku.

Falcons-prepare for future

• Falcons get: 2021 6th round pick

• Colts get: DE Takkarist McKinley

The Falcons have been terrible since their Super Bowl appearance years ago. The team is also expected to be $20M over the cap and are very close to starting the rebuild process. Young defensive end Takkarist McKinley hasn’t really panned out for the Falcons. The Colts could be a good change of scenery for him as he would play alongside Deforest Buckner and Justin Houston and it could give him chances of getting sacks. The Falcons are also 2-6 and could get a top edge rusher in the draft with the track they’re on.

Seahawks-much needed edge upgrade

• Seahawks get: DE Ryan Kerrigan

• Football Team gets: 2022 2nd round pick

The Seahawks have been great with a 6-1 start behind MVP front-runner Russell Wilson. although the the offense is performing well, the team has been in a lot of close game. The defense doesn’t generate pass rush and the front office addressed it with the Carlos Dunlap trade. The team has shown they are in win-now mode by trading two 1st round picks for all pro safety Jamal Adams. What’s next: add to the pass rush. Ryan Kerrigan has seen his role diminish in Washington with the constant investment in the defensive line. The Seahawks get another great edge to pair with Carlos Dunlap to help out the defense.

Cardinals-upgrade tight end

• Cardinals get: TE David Njoku

• Browns get: 2021 5th round pick

The Cardinals have been competitive in the NFC West with the acquisition of Deandre Hopkins. The offense has gone to new heights and the defense has been able to make big plays in key wins. The offense could still use a tight end to make them even more dangerous as they pursue a playoff appearance. David Njoku would be a good fit in the system and would benefit off of the focus on Deandre Hopkins. The Cardinals would get a young tight end to add to their young offensive core.

Rams-gain picks

• Rams get: 2021 3rd round pick

• Jets get: TE Gerald Everett

The Rams have been staying in the playoff hunt this year but still look at facing cap space hell. The team also lost draft picks as they have traded for players and need to get some picks back. The Rams have a talented tight end room and Gerald Everett could be an enticing trade piece. The Jets have no weapons for Sam Darnold and getting Everett would give them a consistent and reliable target as they continue their tanking quest for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

49ers-defensive line gains more depth

• 49ers get: DT Quinnen Williams

• Jets get: 2021 4th round pick

Coming off of a Super Bowl appearance, the 49ers have dealt with a number of injuries. Losing key players like George Kittle, Jimmy Garrapolo, Nick Bosa, and Raheem Mostert has the team falling to last in the NFC West. The front office can still make moves and keep them competitive. The Jets have been shopping players and young defensive tackle Quinnen Williams could see a new home. The 49ers would get a young pass rusher and run stopper up the middle and gain depth on their talented defensive front.
